VIA is excited to partner with the City of San Antonio SA Tomorrow effort to understand how our community envisions how we grow, move and sustain 1.1 million additional residents in the San Antonio region in year 2040.  VIA Metropolitan Transit joined the City of San Antonio, Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and Texas Department of Transportation for the SA Tomorrow kickoff event at the SA Convocation Center last Saturday, April 11, 2015 and ask attendees to take a pledge to ride and take an opportunity to “remix their streets.”

VIA asked attendees at the Saturday event to think about today’s streets and demonstrate how they envision the streets of San Antonio’s future. We heard from numerous residents on how the region’s streets could better serve their needs. When given the chance to “remix” existing street design, attendees came up with numerous solutions.  Many attendees added protected bike lanes, others expanded sidewalks and added street trees, while others incorporated dedicated transit lanes.

Key to meeting the transportation needs in the future, VIA will be fundamental to effectively managing the growth of our region. A VIA Primo bus was on hand at the event and was tagged with pledge stickers, signifying each individual’s commitment to ride transit.  For each individual pledge made, VIA provided a free day pass for those at the event.
