Big issues ahead for the city in 2017

In many ways, 2016 was more milquetoast than momentous for the city of San Antonio.

A new contract between the city and the San Antonio Police Officers Association was the highlight of the year. We endorsed this new contract because for the first time in city history, police officers will contribute to their monthly health care premiums. The deal has its flaws, but this shift will save money for taxpayers.

There were some low points, too. The city’s bizarre and secretive pursuit of a Triple-A baseball team stands out as a real fail. There was the regrettable chatter about cutting funding for services that help domestic violence survivors.
